Teenage girls in the Nkwanta South Municipality have commended the government for rolling out the free sanitary pad initiative, describing it as a timely and life-changing intervention.
The initiative, which aims to promote menstrual hygiene and reduce absenteeism among schoolgirls, has already begun making a positive impact in several schools across the municipality.
Speaking during a community engagement session, many of the beneficiaries shared how the initiative has eased the financial burden on their parents and boosted their confidence to attend school during their menstrual periods.
“We used to miss classes whenever we were menstruating because we couldn’t afford sanitary pads. Now, thanks to the government, we can go to school without fear or embarrassment,” one student said.
Teachers and parents also praised the initiative, noting that it has significantly improved school attendance and concentration among adolescent girls. They appealed for its expansion to cover all schools in the district.
Local education authorities in Nkwanta South reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring effective distribution and monitoring of the pads to sustain the program’s impact.
