Arsenal produced a dominant display at the Emirates Stadium as Viktor Gyökeres struck twice to inspire a 4–1 victory over Atlético Madrid in their UEFA Champions League Group C clash on Tuesday night.
The Gunners were in ruthless form from the start, with Mikel Arteta’s side showcasing fluid attacking football and clinical finishing to dismantle Diego Simeone’s usually disciplined defence.
Gyökeres opened the scoring in the 17th minute, finishing off a sweeping team move after combining neatly with Bukayo Saka. Arsenal doubled their advantage before halftime when Martin Ødegaard curled home a sublime strike from the edge of the box.
Atletico briefly threatened a comeback early in the second half, with Álvaro Morata pulling one back after capitalising on a defensive lapse. But Arsenal quickly restored their dominance as Gyökeres netted his second of the night — a powerful header from a Leandro Trossard cross.
Gabriel Martinelli sealed the emphatic win late on, firing in from close range to make it 4–1.
The victory keeps Arsenal top of their group and extends their unbeaten run in Europe this season, while Atlético face mounting pressure after back-to-back defeats.
Arteta praised his side’s performance after the match, saying, “This is the level we want to be at — intensity, creativity, and control. Gyökeres was outstanding, but it was a complete team effort.”
