Popular Nigerian singer Yemi Alade has opened up about how her deep dedication to music once caused her to lose track of time and disconnect from reality.
In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the “Johnny” hitmaker revealed that she became so engrossed in her career that she failed to notice how quickly the years were passing.
“There was a time if someone had asked me my age, I realised I kept saying for three years that I was 22,” Yemi Alade recalled. “And then I realised I was 25. I took out my phone and I did the mathematics. I was depressed for a few days.”
She went on to explain that during that phase of her life, music consumed her entirely, leaving little room for anything else.
“My mind was also not taking into account that years were passing by. I was so invested and in my own world. I secluded myself and only focused on the music,” she said.
Yemi’s candid reflection offers a rare glimpse into the emotional and mental sacrifices that come with pursuing artistic excellence — a reality many creatives can relate to.
