Fans and well-wishers of Ghanaian music legend Daddy Lumba can now mark their calendars, as a new date has been set for his final funeral rites.
The announcement comes after adjustments were made to the previously scheduled arrangements, with the family citing logistical considerations and the desire to ensure that the event is inclusive for all fans, colleagues, and dignitaries who wish to pay their respects.
Details of the revised programme indicate that the funeral will feature traditional ceremonies, memorial services, and performances celebrating the life and legacy of the highlife icon. Organisers have emphasised that the event will be conducted in a manner befitting Daddy Lumba’s decades-long contribution to Ghanaian music.
Fans have taken to social media expressing their anticipation and condolences, with many praising the musician’s impact on the local music industry.
Further updates, including the exact venue, times, and protocols for attendance, are expected to be released by the family and management team in the coming days.
The decision was made during a meeting at the Otumfuo Saamanhene Palace on November 10, 2025, where a new funeral committee chaired by Dadiesoabahene was constituted to oversee the arrangements.
During the meeting, Daddy Lumba’s sister, Ernestina Akosua Brempomaa, appealed for a postmortem examination, expressing suspicions of foul play in her brother’s death. She requested that the burial and funeral be postponed until the test results confirmed the exact cause of death.
However, the Chiefs resolved that the postmortem issue would be handled by the police and reaffirmed December 13 as the official date for the funeral. They also urged the family to remain united and ensure a dignified send-off for the late musician.
Regarding the invocation of the Great Oath, Akosua Brempomaa — who performed the act — has been pardoned by the Asantehene but cautioned against repeating such actions in the future.
