President Mahama Approves Two-Year Extension for IGP Tetteh Yohuno

President John Dramani Mahama has granted a two-year contract extension to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, following a recommendation by the Police Council.

The extension allows IGP Yohuno to continue leading the Ghana Police Service as it intensifies ongoing reforms and strengthens national security operations.

Sources confirmed to micksonedeblogger.com that the decision is intended to ensure stability, continuity in security management, and sustained progress under his leadership.

President Mahama, in consultation with the Council of State, appointed Christian Tetteh Yohuno as IGP on March 13, 2025. He was officially sworn into office a day later, taking over from his predecessor, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

Since assuming office, IGP Yohuno has been widely credited with improving police visibility, enhancing crime response measures, and expanding community policing initiatives nationwide. His leadership has also been associated with renewed public confidence in internal security operations.

Initially scheduled to retire in December 2025, the new directive extends his tenure to December 2027, allowing him more time to oversee ongoing security reforms and strategic policing programmes.
