President Mahama to Appoint Substantive Defence, Environment, Technology and Innovation Ministers After Christmas Holidays

President John Dramani Mahama is expected to announce substantive ministers for the Ministries of Defence and Environment, Technology and Innovation shortly after the Christmas holidays, according to senior government sources.

The appointments will fill key vacancies that have remained under acting leadership as the new administration continues to finalise its ministerial structure. The President is expected to name individuals with strong professional backgrounds and experience to oversee the strategic sectors.

The Defence Ministry, in particular, has been under close public scrutiny due to ongoing security reforms and the need to strengthen Ghana’s defence readiness. The Environment, Technology and Innovation portfolio is also seen as crucial, especially as the government moves to expand its digital economy and implement environmentally sustainable policies.

Sources say the delay in naming substantive ministers was due to extensive consultations and the President’s commitment to assembling a team capable of accelerating national development under the 24-Hour Economy agenda.

The announcements are expected immediately after the holidays as the government prepares to roll out major policy initiatives in the first quarter of the year.
