Member of Parliament for Buem and Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Kofi Adams, has assured the public that Ghanaian boxing is now safer and fully back to business following recent reforms and safety enhancements within the sport.
Speaking to the media, Kofi Adams stated that the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), together with relevant stakeholders, has taken significant steps to address safety concerns raised in past years. According to him, new protocols have been introduced to ensure that boxers, coaches, and spectators are better protected during training and competitive events.
He highlighted improvements such as stricter medical examinations, enhanced ringside medical presence, updated safety equipment, and improved oversight during bouts. These measures, he noted, have restored confidence among promoters, athletes, and fans.
“Ghanaian boxing is safer today than it has been in years. The reforms put in place have strengthened the system, and we are now back to business with renewed energy and professionalism,” Adams said.
He also commended the various boxing gyms across the country for adhering to the new standards and helping revive interest in the sport. Kofi Adams emphasised that boxing remains one of the nation’s strongest sporting assets and called for continued investment to help develop young talent.
With Ghana producing world-class champions over the decades, the MP expressed optimism that the improved safety measures will pave the way for a new generation of boxers to rise to international glory.
