The Ghana Police Service has firmly dismissed widespread social media rumours claiming that Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has passed away, describing the reports as false, malicious, and reckless.
In an official statement, the Police Service cautioned the public against spreading fabricated information capable of causing public fear and panic. They emphasised that the IGP is alive, healthy, and fully engaged in his official duties.
“The attention of the Ghana Police Service has been drawn to a malicious rumour circulating on social media alleging the death of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno. We wish to categorically state that the information is false,” the statement read.
The Police further indicated that such misinformation not only undermines public trust but also distracts from the Service’s ongoing security operations nationwide.
“These rumours are reckless and deliberately orchestrated to create unnecessary anxiety. We urge the public to disregard them and rely solely on verified information from official Police channels,” the Service added.
The Police Service also hinted that individuals responsible for circulating the false reports may be tracked and dealt with according to the law, to deter similar acts in the future.
Meanwhile, close sources confirm that IGP Yohuno has continued with his scheduled engagements, including high-level security briefings and internal restructuring meetings.
The Service has encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and avoid sharing unverified updates, especially on sensitive issues involving national security.
