Ghana has been selected to host the 2026 Africa Aquatics Swimming Championships, scheduled to take place in May 2026, marking a significant milestone for the country’s growing sports profile on the continent.
The decision, announced by Africa Aquatics, positions Ghana as a major destination for elite swimming and aquatic sports in Africa. The championship is expected to attract top swimmers from across the continent, alongside coaches, technical officials, and sports administrators.
Officials say hosting the event will not only showcase Ghana’s improving sports infrastructure but also provide a major boost to local tourism, hospitality, and youth sports development. It is also expected to inspire greater interest in swimming and aquatic disciplines among young Ghanaians.
The Ghana Swimming Association, working in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and other stakeholders, has expressed confidence in the country’s ability to deliver a successful championship. Preparations are expected to include facility upgrades, technical training for officials, and athlete development programmes ahead of the competition.
Sports analysts view the hosting rights as a vote of confidence in Ghana’s organisational capacity and a reflection of the country’s renewed focus on sports development beyond football.
More details on venues, participating nations, and event schedules are expected to be announced in the coming months as planning intensifies toward the May 2026 championships.
