President John Dramani Mahama has directed the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to immediately investigate allegations that scholarships are being sold for as much as GHC100,000, following claims made by former National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) CEO Kofi Ofosu Nkansah during a radio discussion on Sompa 106.5 FM.
According to a letter cited by 3news on February 3, the Presidency described the allegations as serious and of grave public concern, particularly given the government’s commitment to transparency, integrity, and equal access to educational opportunities. The letter noted that the radio discussion, conducted in Twi, had gained wide public circulation and warranted urgent scrutiny.
Mr Nkansah alleged in a widely shared video that some government officials were involved in selling scholarships to individuals seeking to study abroad. In response, the President tasked the NIB to establish the factual basis of the claims, identify any persons involved, and determine the veracity of the allegations.
The Bureau has also been instructed to submit its findings to the President for further consideration and any appropriate action that may follow.
