Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has announced plans to deploy artificial intelligence (AI) to help address challenges associated with Ghana’s second-cycle school placement system.
The initiative is expected to improve the efficiency of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) and reduce difficulties encountered by students and parents during the placement process.
According to the minister, technology will be used to strengthen the placement process and help address some of the recurring challenges associated with school selection and placement.
The announcement comes amid renewed public debate over the CSSPS, particularly concerns about placement outcomes, school choices and the difficulties families face when seeking solutions to placement-related issues.
Haruna Iddrisu has previously defended the government’s efforts to reform the education sector and improve systems supporting students and parents.
The planned use of AI forms part of broader efforts to modernise Ghana’s education administration and make the placement process more responsive, efficient and transparent.
The Education Ministry is expected to provide further details on how the technology will be integrated into the placement system and when the new measures will take effect.
