Afua Kobi Ampem Girls Senior High School has taken another bold step in advancing technological education and innovation in Ghana with the donation of a radio-controlled training aircraft to the Ghana Air Force Aviation College.
The aircraft, christened ‘GHF Susan’ after a third-year STEM student of the school, is designed to serve as a practical educational tool to enhance flight training and aeronautical engineering studies at the college.
The initiative, spearheaded by the school’s STEM and Robotics Club, reflects Afua Kobi Ampem Girls’ growing commitment to promoting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) among young women.
At a brief presentation ceremony, school authorities noted that the donation was part of a broader vision to inspire girls to venture into aviation and aerospace-related fields, traditionally dominated by men.
“The ‘GHF Susan’ is a symbol of what young Ghanaian women can achieve when allowed to innovate,” a representative of the STEM Club said. “We hope this gesture strengthens collaboration between our school and the Ghana Air Force, and encourages more girls to pursue careers in aviation.”
Officials from the Ghana Air Force Aviation College commended the students and staff of Afua Kobi Ampem Girls SHS for their ingenuity and forward-thinking approach. They described the aircraft as a valuable addition to their training resources, emphasising that it would help improve hands-on learning for aviation trainees.
The donation highlights the growing role of Ghanaian schools in nurturing innovation, creativity, and technical skills among students, especially young women who are increasingly taking up leadership roles in STEM disciplines.
