Members of Parliament on the Majority side have paid glowing tribute to the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, following news of her passing on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga described Mrs Rawlings as a trailblazer, visionary leader, and a formidable advocate for women’s empowerment whose contributions to Ghana’s democratic and social development will forever be remembered.
He noted that Nana Konadu’s pioneering role in founding the 31st December Women’s Movement transformed the lives of countless Ghanaian women by promoting access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
“Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was more than a First Lady; she was a force of change and an inspiration to generations of women across Ghana and beyond. Her courage, resilience, and dedication to national service will continue to guide us,” Mr Ayariga stated.
Other MPs joined in expressing their condolences to the Rawlings family, highlighting her historic achievement as the first woman to contest the presidency in Ghana’s Fourth Republic and her unwavering belief in equality and justice.
The Majority caucus also extended its sympathies to former President John Dramani Mahama, who described Mrs Rawlings as “a strong woman of purpose whose legacy will endure.”
Parliament observed a minute of silence in her honour, with Speaker Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin commending her lifelong commitment to public service and women’s advancement.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings passed away at the Ridge Hospital in Accra at age 76. Her death has drawn tributes from across the political divide, reflecting her lasting impact on Ghana’s political and social landscape.
