Nigerian global music star Ayra Starr has revealed that she no longer resides in Nigeria, a disclosure that has sparked widespread discussion among fans.
The Grammy-nominated singer made the revelation during a recent interview, explaining that her move was driven by career demands and the need to operate closer to key international music markets.
Ayra Starr, born Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, noted that her rapid rise in the global music scene requires constant travel, studio sessions, and collaborations outside Africa — a lifestyle that made relocation necessary.
“I don’t live in Nigeria anymore,” she stated, adding that although she is now based abroad, Nigeria remains her home and the foundation of her sound and identity.
The “Rush” hitmaker emphasised that her decision was not influenced by negative circumstances but by professional growth and the need to expand her global reach. She also reassured fans that she frequently returns to Nigeria for concerts, family, and cultural reconnecting.
Ayra Starr’s relocation is consistent with the trend of Afrobeats artists positioning themselves internationally to maximise opportunities in the fast-growing global music market.
Fans have reacted with mixed emotions — some expressing pride in her global success, while others say they already miss her presence in Lagos’ vibrant music scene.
Ayra Starr continues to be one of Africa’s fastest-rising stars, with her international profile soaring following multiple nominations, chart-topping hits, and major global collaborations.
