NDC, NPP to Share Ashanti Votes Equally by 2028 – Asiedu Nketiah

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are expected to share electoral votes in the Ashanti Region equally in the 2028 general elections, according to the NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.

He expressed confidence that the long-held perception of the Ashanti Region as a stronghold of the NPP is gradually changing, adding that he is committed to achieving that balance before retiring from active politics.

Mr Asiedu Nketiah made the remarks while addressing party supporters at Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua Constituency during his “Thank You” tour of the region. He emphasised that the key to achieving this goal lies in effective grassroots strategies and sustained engagement with local communities.

According to him, voting patterns in the region are shifting, with increasing focus on development, improved living conditions, and delivery on campaign promises rather than traditional party loyalty.

He cited the completion of inherited projects, the initiation of new development initiatives in consultation with traditional leaders, and the creation of economic opportunities as critical interventions that would help the NDC gain greater support in the region.

“Voting today is influenced by development outcomes and the extent to which promises are fulfilled,” he noted, expressing optimism that these factors would enable the NDC to secure an equal share of votes in the region in future elections.

Mr Asiedu Nketiah further urged government appointees to work diligently in their respective sectors and communities to justify the confidence placed in them, stressing that visible development remains the most effective tool for campaigning.

He also called on party members to remain united, cooperate, and support government efforts aimed at improving the livelihoods of people across the country.

Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive for the area, Ibrahim Issahak, highlighted several ongoing development projects within the district. He noted that government interventions span key sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, energy, the economy, as well as water and sanitation.

The statements come as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2028 elections, with increasing attention on regions traditionally considered strongholds.
