The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has seized a large quantity of substances suspected to be cannabis with an estimated street value of GH¢1.18 million during a special operation in the Volta Region.
According to NACOC, the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on illicit drug trafficking and the distribution of narcotic substances across the country. The raid led to the interception of several parcels of suspected cannabis, which authorities believe were intended for distribution within and beyond the region.
The commission indicated that investigations are underway to identify and apprehend individuals connected to the seized substances. Officials have not ruled out the possibility of a wider trafficking network operating in the area.
NACOC reiterated its commitment to combating drug-related crimes and warned that anyone involved in the cultivation, transportation, possession, or trafficking of illicit drugs will face the full rigours of the law. The commission also called on the public to support the fight against narcotics by providing relevant information to security agencies.
The latest seizure adds to a series of anti-drug operations carried out by NACOC in recent months as authorities intensify efforts to curb the illegal drug trade and protect public safety.
The suspected substances have been secured for further examination and evidential purposes while investigations continue.
