Two Dead After Cargo Plane Skids Off Hong Kong Runway Into the Sea

A tragic accident at Hong Kong International Airport has left two people dead after a cargo plane skidded off the runway and plunged into the sea early Tuesday morning.

According to airport authorities, the aircraft — a Boeing 747 freighter operated by a regional logistics carrier — was attempting to land amid heavy rainfall when it lost control and overshot the runway.

Emergency responders quickly rushed to the scene, where rescue divers recovered the bodies of two crew members from the partially submerged wreckage. Two others on board were rescued and taken to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving treatment for serious injuries.

The Civil Aviation Department has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, with early reports suggesting poor visibility and slippery runway conditions may have played a role.

Operations at the airport were temporarily suspended but have since resumed, with authorities assuring passengers that safety checks are ongoing.

The tragic incident marks one of Hong Kong’s most serious aviation accidents in recent years.
