The government has taken steps to strengthen responsible mining practices through a new partnership between the Minerals Development Fund (MDF) and the Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA).
The collaboration is aimed at promoting sustainable and well-regulated corporate mining across the country, while ensuring that mineral resources are developed in a manner that benefits local communities and the national economy.
Officials say the partnership will focus on improving geological data, enhancing monitoring systems, and supporting responsible mining operations that comply with environmental and safety standards. It is also expected to help curb illegal mining activities by strengthening oversight and providing accurate data for decision-making.
According to authorities, the MDF–GGSA collaboration will play a critical role in ensuring that mining companies operate within the legal framework while contributing meaningfully to community development through the proper use of mineral revenues.
The initiative forms part of broader government efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and sustainability in Ghana’s mining sector.
Stakeholders believe the partnership could significantly improve the management of the country’s mineral resources, while balancing economic growth with environmental protection.
