IMF Never Blamed GoldBod for BoG Losses – Sammy Gyamfi

Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has rejected claims that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) attributed losses incurred by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to GoldBod’s operations.

According to him, the IMF has never blamed GoldBod for the central bank’s reported losses, describing such claims as misleading.

Gyamfi’s comments come amid an ongoing political debate over the financial performance of the Bank of Ghana and the role of GoldBod in Ghana’s gold trading and foreign exchange management framework.

He maintained that GoldBod’s operations should not be presented as the cause of losses recorded by the central bank, insisting that those making the allegation should provide evidence to support their claims.

The GoldBod CEO’s position follows recent criticism from some opposition figures, who have raised concerns about the financial implications of government policies involving the gold sector and the central bank.

Gyamfi has challenged his critics to produce documentation from the IMF showing where the Fund specifically blamed GoldBod for the BoG’s losses.

The controversy comes as authorities continue efforts to strengthen Ghana’s foreign exchange position and improve the country’s management of gold resources.

Gyamfi has also defended GoldBod’s transparency, stating that the Auditor-General had full access to the organisation’s records during its audit process.

He reiterated that GoldBod remains committed to its mandate and urged the public to rely on verifiable facts rather than political claims when assessing the institution’s performance.
