Ghanaian passport holders can now travel to the Maldives, Zambia, and Antigua and Barbuda without obtaining entry visas, following the ratification and implementation of visa waiver agreements between Ghana and the three countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the development in a statement dated September 8, 2026, confirming that the arrangements apply to holders of ordinary, service and diplomatic passports.
Under the new agreements, Ghanaians travelling to the Maldives and Zambia can stay for up to 30 days per visit, while those travelling to Antigua and Barbuda can stay for a maximum of 90 days without a visa.

The Ministry, however, stressed that visa-free access does not mean automatic entry. Travellers must still comply with the immigration and entry requirements of the destination country, carry a valid passport and provide any additional documents that may be requested by immigration authorities.
Ghanaians intending to work, study, reside permanently or undertake activities requiring specific authorisation must obtain the appropriate permits or approvals before travelling.
Travellers have also been advised to check the latest entry, health and other requirements with the relevant authorities or Ghana’s diplomatic missions, as these requirements may change.
The agreements form part of the government’s broader passport diplomacy agenda, aimed at expanding visa-free travel opportunities for Ghanaian citizens while strengthening Ghana’s bilateral relations with other countries. Cabinet had approved the agreements earlier in April 2026, paving the way for their subsequent ratification and implementation.
The development is expected to facilitate tourism, business, investment and people-to-people exchanges between Ghana and the three destinations.
