Three killed in mining accident at Gbane in Upper East Region

A police report has confirmed that three young men died after a loose slab of rock collapsed on them while they were working underground in a mining pit.

According to a press statement dated February 17, police received information about the incident and proceeded to the scene at Tarkwa. Upon arrival, officers observed that some individuals had already entered the pit and retrieved the three lifeless bodies, which had been placed in sacks.

The mining pit owner, Tii Musah, identified the deceased to the police as his workers: Subil Nmabil, aged about 30; Musah Zipati, aged about 40; and Onyin Udasaa, aged about 35.

Police said a preliminary examination revealed injuries, including a deep cut to the left rib of Subil Nmabil, multiple head injuries sustained by Musah Zipati, and a severely crushed right hand of Onyin Udasaa.

The bodies were transported to the Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga, where a medical officer on duty confirmed them dead. They have since been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
