May The Almighty God Grant Her Peaceful Rest – Mahama Mourns Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings

Former President John Dramani Mahama has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, former First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, who died on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra.

In a heartfelt statement, President Mahama described the late Nana Konadu as “a woman of strength, vision, and unshakable commitment to the empowerment of women and the progress of Ghana.”

He recounted her lifelong dedication to public service through the 31st December Women’s Movement, which transformed the lives of countless women by promoting education, entrepreneurship, and social inclusion.

“Ghana has lost one of its most courageous daughters,” Mahama said. “Her legacy of advocacy and nation-building will continue to inspire generations. May the Almighty God grant her a peaceful rest.”

Nana Konadu, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, served as First Lady from 1979 to 2001. She was a pioneer in women’s rights activism and made history in 2016 as the first woman to contest Ghana’s presidency under the National Democratic Party (NDP).

Her passing has drawn tributes from across the political divide, with many describing her as a “symbol of resilience, leadership, and patriotism.”

As the nation mourns, President Mahama extended condolences to the Rawlings family, urging all Ghanaians to celebrate her remarkable contributions to national development and the empowerment of women.
