President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed confidence that policies implemented by his administration to stabilise and reposition Ghana’s economy are beginning to yield positive results.
Addressing supporters and delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after the party’s flagbearer election, which was won by former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, President Akufo-Addo said signs of economic recovery were becoming increasingly evident.
“The recovery of the economy that was charted before we left office is becoming visible and felt. Those necessary policies to stabilise and reposition our economy are bearing fruit,” he stated.
President Akufo-Addo described the party’s message as one anchored in achievement, responsibility and unity, adding that the NPP remains driven by a bold vision for the future.
He urged party members who were unsuccessful in the contest to rally behind the flagbearer, stressing the importance of unity after internal elections.
“To those who did not prevail: stand tall in loyalty. In our tradition, true loyalty is proven not in victory, but in how we respond to defeat,” he said, expressing confidence that all contenders would uphold the party’s tradition of unity after competition.
Reflecting on his long-standing relationship with Dr Bawumia, the President recalled choosing him as his running mate 18 years ago and contesting four elections together.
“I know his mind, his character, his love for Ghana, and his appetite for hard work. He is loyal to the party and the country,” he noted.
President Akufo-Addo further expressed optimism that, with the support of party members and supporters, Dr Bawumia would lead the NPP back to electoral victory.
He added that under Dr Bawumia’s leadership, the party would present a clear and credible plan to grow the economy, support enterprise, create jobs, protect vulnerable groups and harness the potential of Ghana’s youth.
“The NPP has done it before. Under Dr Bawumia, we will do it again and do it better,” he said.
