Christian Atsu’s Family Attends GFA Talent Engagement Programme in UK

The family of late Ghana international Christian Atsu participated in the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Talent Engagement Programme held in the United Kingdom as part of efforts to strengthen ties with young footballers of Ghanaian descent abroad.

The engagement session, organised in collaboration with the Ghana High Commission in the UK, Coachhene Sports Club, and Prince Lamona Consulting, brought together parents, football stakeholders, and young talents of Ghanaian heritage living in the UK.

According to the GFA, the programme forms part of a long-term strategy aimed at identifying and integrating talented UK-born players into Ghana’s national team structures at an early stage. GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku emphasised the importance of building stronger connections between Ghana and its diaspora talents through structured football development pathways.

The late footballer’s family, represented by his wife and children, joined several notable personalities connected to Ghana football at the event. Also present were former Black Stars midfielder Michael Essien and Ahmed Lamptey, father of Ghana international Tariq Lamptey.

During the programme, parents were encouraged to help young players maintain strong ties to Ghana while supporting their football development. Discussions also focused on identity, heritage, and the opportunities available within Ghana’s national team setup.

The initiative was followed by a two-day scouting exercise aimed at assessing promising UK-based footballers eligible to represent Ghana at various national team levels.

The presence of Christian Atsu’s family at the programme drew emotional reactions from many football fans, as the late winger continues to be remembered for his immense contribution to Ghana football and humanitarian work.
