Keir Starmer Announces Resignation as UK Prime Minister

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced his resignation as leader of the Labour Party and Prime Minister, less than two years after leading Labour to a historic election victory in 2024.

In an emotional address outside 10 Downing Street, Starmer said he had accepted the view of his party that he was no longer the best person to lead Labour into the next general election. He confirmed that he will remain in office until a new Labour leader is elected to ensure a smooth transition.

The resignation follows months of mounting pressure within the Labour Party, declining public approval ratings, and disappointing local election results. Political observers believe Andy Burnham is among the leading contenders to succeed Starmer as Labour leader and potentially become the next Prime Minister.

Starmer expressed gratitude to his supporters, colleagues, and family, stating that every decision he made in office was aimed at serving the country. He pledged to give his full support to whoever emerges as his successor.

His departure marks another significant chapter in Britain’s recent political history, with the United Kingdom set to welcome yet another new leader amid ongoing economic and political challenges.
