Newly appointed Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler has made his ambitions clear ahead of the 2026/27 season, insisting that he joined the Porcupine Warriors with the determination to win trophies and achieve significant success.
The South African coach, who took charge of Kotoko in July, said his primary objective is to compete at the highest level rather than simply fulfil his contractual obligations.
Tinkler stated that finishing in the top two is an immediate target, while ultimately winning trophies remains his biggest ambition. “I didn’t come here to just earn a salary. I came here to win things; that’s the most important thing. I came here to win things and achieve things.”
The coach was speaking after Kotoko recorded a 1-0 victory over Heart of Lions in a pre-season friendly. He described himself as an ambitious coach who is passionate about winning and promised to bring that mentality to the team.
“I’m a very ambitious person, so I will be very animated on the bench. My passion is to win things,” he added.
Tinkler’s appointment came after a campaign in which the Porcupine Warriors failed to secure silverware. He has therefore been tasked with helping the club return to the top of Ghanaian football and compete strongly in the upcoming season.
With the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season scheduled to begin in September, Kotoko are continuing their preparations with additional friendly matches before the competitive campaign gets underway.
Tinkler’s early comments will likely raise expectations among Kotoko supporters, who will be hoping his winning mentality translates into success on the pitch.
