Tema NPP Loyalists Disown Naa Torshie Over Alleged Switch to Kennedy Agyapong’s Camp

Hon. Irene Naa Torshie Addo-Lartey

A group of loyal New Patriotic Party (NPP) members in Tema, who also served as part of the working team loyal to Irene Naa Torshie, former Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund, have publicly disowned their former mentor following reports of her alleged defection to Kennedy Agyapong’s camp in the party’s flagbearer race.

Media reports last week suggested that Naa Torshie was preparing to join Kennedy Agyapong’s team in fulfilment of a prophecy by Prophet El-Bernard, which indicated that a female Vice President would be sworn in on January 7, 2029. According to sources, her decision to align with Kennedy is driven by hopes of becoming his running mate.

The speculation gained traction after a photo of Naa Torshie with members of Kennedy’s campaign team surfaced on social media, seemingly confirming her switch.

In response, a group of her loyalists—who previously worked with her in the camp of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia—issued a disclaimer, distancing themselves from her decision.

They accused Naa Torshie of pursuing personal ambitions at the expense of the collective party interest they once shared“The decision by the former MP, Irene Naa Torshie, to join another camp is a deeply personal one, driven by individual ambition. As you can all see, not a single one of her longstanding allies from our party has joined her. This speaks volumes,” their spokesperson, Nana Yaw Ntim stated.

The group added that her move appeared to be a reaction to not being selected as Dr Bawumia’s running mate, describing her vice-presidential pursuit as “not a viable mission.”

They also criticised her performance in Tema West, noting that despite significant investment, the constituency was lost, proving that “the group’s strength was never about one person.” “We want to assure that our base remains solidly behind our visionary leader, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. We are more united and focused than ever, and we will do everything necessary to ensure his victory is sealed,” the group declared.
