Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, contributed GH¢100,000 to help with medical treatment for victims injured in the terrible stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium during a military recruitment drill.
The tragedy, which occurred on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, took six lives and injured approximately 28 people after thousands of optimistic applicants crowded the location for Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) enrollment screenings.
Mr Bagbin visited the victims at the 37 Military Hospital on Thursday, joined by Parliament’s leadership, to express his condolences to the injured and their families.
During the visit, the Speaker stated that the gesture was intended to alleviate the financial strain on victims and also demonstrate Parliament’s solidarity with the impacted families.
He also expressed serious concern about the ongoing issues associated with public sector recruitment activities, highlighting the critical need for reforms to promote safer and more efficient operations.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces has halted the recruitment exercise at El-Wak awaiting an examination into the circumstances behind the stampede.
